INTERSTATE HEAVY EQUIPMENT - LAKEWOOD

Things can go awry even if you follow a strict maintenance schedule. Listed here are some of the most common excavator problems and their causes.

These are just general problems and solutions. First, contact your dealer or a local service professional to ensure that your excavator works correctly. If you aren't a certified technician, don't fix the problem yourself.

MY EXCAVATOR WON'T MOVE!

There are several possible causes for this. Outside of the final drive or travel motor, a problem could be a charge pump issue, being stuck in high-speed mode, a lack of pressure or flow in hydraulics, or a blockage in a motor case drain line.

HOW DOES IT GET SO HOT?

Overheating can be a problem for smaller excavators. Among the things to look for when your excavator is experiencing overheating issues:

  • First, check the weight
  • Next, make sure the exhaust is working properly.
  • Then, check the radiator cap.
  • Finally, make sure the radiator is clean.

WHY IS IT NOT STARTING?

There are some possible causes for this problem. Check out the following:

  • It would be best to check the starter for voltage with a voltmeter if you have one.
  • Look for any signs of damage to the directional joystick wire; it could be the problem.
  • Check the starter's wires.
  • As a precaution, check to see if the "dead man's switch" has been turned on.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY EXCAVATOR?

In most cases, this problem stems from a hydraulic system malfunction. A service technician should inspect the hydraulics. Some of the reasons include:

  • Hydraulic seals that have corroded.
  • Damaged or out-of-date hydraulic drives.
  • An issue with the hydraulic pump.
